It was the first yearly Model United Nations conference that the institute held in Indonesia.
“The event aims to shape a deeper understanding among the delegates on current conditions of human rights,” said Sandya Institute Research Advisor Matthew LoCastro. He delivered his presentation on “The Rise of Global Populism”. Also attending the UN Model event was Isa Soemawidjaja of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
The Model United Nations event serves as a platform specially designed for delegates to shape their skills, such as public speaking, negotiating, and writing skill. Armed with critical thinking skills and knowledge on global current affairs, the delegates are encouraged to figure out real solutions to human rights issues that the world is now facing.
In her opening remarks, Chief Executive Officer of Sampoerna University Dr. Lauren Clarke stated,”Sampoerna University students are aware of and care about these international issues. So we are pleased to collaborate with Sandya Institute to hold this event.”
The event was a success as it was joined by more than 80 delegates from several countries, i.e. Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Netherlands, and some representatives from Afghanistan, Yemen and Somalia. (*/)[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
