“Our association was established to transform our business education and to use businesses and business education to help change the world into a better place. And we do that by creating innovations and impact,” stated Dr. Robinson in the meeting.

He was joined by Dr. Wahdi Yudhi (Rector of Sampoerna University), Dr. Marshall E. Schott (President of Sampoerna University), Dr. Ivan Butar (Dean of Faculty of Business), Dr. Lauren E. Clarke (Vice Rector of the University College and International Relations) and several other key officials of the university.

Dr. Robinson also touched on some internal changes occuring in the association he is leading now. “In 2013, we underwent a big change from our previous standards. When I was teaching prior to that, it was more about academic involvement, academic research, and so on. The new model introduced in 2013 is more flexible,” he said.

Dr. Ivan Butar stated, “On this occasion, we introduced the vision and missions of Sampoerna University, particularly Faculty of Business (FoB), to the head of well-respected international accreditation institution.” Dr. Robinson also wished to see all the faculty members of Faculty of Business and the top management of the university in person.

According to the dean, the visitation brought important messages. Firstly, it shows that we are among the top Indonesian universities, i.e. University of Indonesia, Bina Nusantara, Tarumanegara University, and Prasetiya Mulya University.

“Sampoerna University is a relatively young university, but we are able to put ourselves on par with them in terms to become internationally accredited university,” Dr. Ivan Butar reasoned.

Having become a member of AACSB since 2012, FoB has met the AACSB standards in running the business school by promoting innovation, engagement, and impact.

“Thirdly, the visitation also shows that Sampoerna University has potential to be AACSB accredited university in the future,” Dr. Ivan Butar explained further.

FoB is in the final stage of its Initial Self-Evaluation Report (ISER), which will due in April 2020. Many things have been accomplished to meet the standards set by the accreditation committee.

“We will take the advice of Dr. Robinson and our long-time mentor Prof. Davies before sending the final report. Nevertheless, regardless of the outcome, FOB will continuously improve to the quality of its business education to meet the challenges of global competition ahead,” Dr. Ivan Butar concluded.

Established in 1916 to provide accreditation to schools of business, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business is an American professional organization. It connects educators, students, and business to achieve a common goal: to create the next generation of great leaders. Besides business education intelligence, the organization also provides quality assurance, learning and development services to over 1,700 member organizations and more than 840 accredited business schools worldwide.
