Visual Communication Design

The Visual Communication Design (New Media) program is a multidisciplinary program within the Faculty of Science and Technology that utilizes a core of design pedagogy coupled with technology-enhanced teaching and learning to produce graduates capable of creating interactive, digital, visual interfaces for a variety of applications and industries.

The multidisciplinary nature of the program means that students will gain core knowledge in graphic design, creative coding, 2D/3D animation, photography,  audio/visual directing-editing, interactive media and transmedia storytelling, with introductions to business and entrepreneurship.

This program’s emphasis on project- based, technologically-driven learning incorporates collaborations between its students with students from other programs such as

  • Business and computer science.
  • Mobile Apps and web design development
  • Digital/video media development, production and editing
  • Computer illustrations and animation (2D/3D)
  • Audio production and editing
  • Augmented and Virtual Reality Development
  • Creative Coding for interactive media

  • Competent to work and to manage in various Visual Communication design media companies and have the capability to design, produce, implement, and improve new media, multimedia communication, mass communication, Interactive Media Design.
  • Possess the entrepreneurial spirit to engage in creative businesses in the field of Multimedia Design.
  • Capable of performing life-long learning by self-study, doing research, or continuing education in the field of Visual Communication Design and related disciplines.

Program Learning Outcomes

  • Able to produce print and digital visual communication design that have added value and aesthetics to overcome identity problems, social media, new media, multimedia communication, mass communication, Interactive Media and a competition faced by stakeholders by not causing public restlessness and supporting environmental sustainability.
  • Able to conduct various research methodologies and design production based on creativity by utilizing media technology to achieve a solution-oriented end result.
  • Able to conduct research and exploration of ideas to set goals, communication target, and prototype visual communication design solutions that can overcome the identity issue, new media, multimedia communication, mass communication, and competition by considering ethical, historical, cultural, social consequence, environmental preservation and applicable regulation aspects.
  • Able to analyze the efficiency level of material utilization and design production timeline for each alternative prototype of the chosen visual communication design solution, without changing the essence and aesthetics of the design.
  • Able to independently or collectively communicate the alternative prototype of visual communication design solutions in the form of verbal, graphic, writing, and communicative models by using traditional and digital techniques based on correct communication rules.
  • Capable to conduct independent business in the visual communication sector.
