Sampoerna University is one step closer to its mission to prepare future leaders for a global society. On behalf of the university, Dr. Ammar Aamer (Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Technology) participated in the 2019 Asian Engineering Deans Summit (AEDS) on May 29-31, 2019 at the Taiwan National University, Taipei.
“As one of the top quality higher education providers in Indonesia, and given the strategic collaboration with top universities and industry, Sampoerna University represented by the Faculty of Engineering and Technology has been invited to be part of this global network of engineering schools,” the dean shared the news.
Dr. Ammar had gathered with a number of deans of several top Asian engineering schools participating in the summit to share and discuss the challenges of Engineering Education in an rapidly changing world.
As a platform to discuss these important issues related to engineering higher education, the summit focused on the issue of Global Education and Innovative Technology in the Asian Higher Education.
The topics covered in the summit were global education program and student mobility, AI-based educational technology, green technology and sustainable environment, innovative technology and entrepreneurship, international research center with industrial collaboration, recruitment of international students and/or female students.
Being part of this important global consortium, and by sharing best practices and future plans of several Asian engineering schools, the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Sampoerna University will further improve the quality of its engineering education and advance outstanding comprehensive programs in engineering education.
This gathering of deans of Faculty of Engineering and Technology and representatives is an important event to explore further improvements and potential collaborations in engineering education in the Asian region, Dr. Ammar.
The AEDS was first held at National University of Singapore, Singapore in 2010 and has since been held at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, P. R. China (2012), Yonsei University, Korea (2013), Peking University, P. R. China (2014), National University of Singapore, Singapore (2015), Zhejiang University, P. R. China (2016) and University of New South Wales, Australia (2017), Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan (2018).
“There will be another summit next year hosted by the University of Hong Kong,” said Dr. Ammar.
According to him, following this event there will be cooperation meetings to take place between Faculty of Engineering and Technology and other universities in Singapore, Japan, and China. (*/)
